Cantina – Producers of Manduria: The Cantina’s adventure began in 1928 with the creation of the “Wine Federation,” an association of producers that in 1932 was formed as a cooperative with the establishment of the “Consorzio Produttori Vini e Mosti rossi superiori da taglio per la zona di Manduria.” The company’s fortunes are thus intertwined with those of the area’s reigning product, “Primitivo di Manduria,” first destined to bolster French and northern Italian labels, then humiliated during the dark years of methanol and finally resurrected in the mid-1990s with a turnaround that has allowed it to focus on quality and added value in the bottle.
